I had a dream for the first time in a while.
What Happened in the Dream
A friend invited me to join a manzai (Japanese stand-up comedy duo) tournament. Apparently you have to enter as a pair, but they couldn’t find a partner, so they wanted me to take part.
The tournament was split into a qualifying round and a main round. In the qualifiers, you perform your manzai one-on-one against another contestant, and the judges pick the winner. If you rank high enough in win points, you advance to the main round.
I won the first qualifying match without trouble.
For some reason, the second match wasn’t manzai but a pro wrestling match. No idea why, but I won.
In the third match, the rules changed even further, and it turned out that teams were actually made up of three people. I ended up on cheering duty, and the other two climbed into the ring.
That’s where I woke up. Only three hours had passed since I fell asleep. I went back to sleep and overslept.
Dream Analysis
This was clearly influenced by Genshin Impact.
Thoughts on Genshin Impact’s Natlan Archon Quest (Spoilers)
The first half is, by any measure, exactly the content of Act I of Natlan, and in the second half the competition shifts from manzai to combat, making it even more on the nose.
It’s interesting that in the third match, I got out of competing. Maybe it’s a manifestation of a wish not to take part in that kind of event.
In fact, in the real world too, I’m indeed scheduled to take part in an event (neither manzai nor pro wrestling). It’s definitely a major source of stress. Today’s dream is probably a reflection of that.
Professor Gemini’s Commentary
Understood. Your self-analysis was very accurate and sharp. With that in mind, I’ll try a deeper dream analysis of my own.
The AI’s Deep Analysis of the Dream
This dream doesn’t merely reflect real-life stress. It seems to depict, very skillfully, your inner conflict, swaying between “the role you are expected to play” and “a reality that keeps changing.”
1. “Manzai” as “Scripted Communication”
The dream’s opening, the “manzai tournament,” is highly symbolic. Manzai is an exchange of words, a place that tests calculated humor and communication skills. This may reflect the image you originally held of the real-life event, or the ideal of how things “should be.”
In other words, the setting of “manzai” expresses a certain confidence, an optimistic outlook: “If I use my intelligence and conversational skills, I should be able to handle this.” Winning the first match with ease was also a sign of that confidence.
2. The Shift to “Pro Wrestling”: Facing an Unreasonable Reality
But then the stage suddenly changes to “pro wrestling.” This is the dream’s core turning point. Pro wrestling involves not words but physical strength, performance, and a certain amount of “pain.”
This suggests that your subconscious has realized that the real-life event you’re facing doesn’t work as the “intellectual, smart exchange” you first imagined, and that it has a side that is grittier, more draining, and doesn’t listen to reason. The unexpected rule change is the unreasonableness of an uncontrollable reality itself.
That you still win may speak to your strong sense of responsibility, and your ability to cope, in thinking “I have to adapt somehow even to this unreasonable situation.”
3. The True Meaning of “Three to a Team” and the Choice to “Switch to Cheering”
The further rule change to “three to a team” in the third match symbolizes the confusion of the situation and the uncertainty of your own position.
And then there’s what you did here: “switched to cheering.” You analyzed it yourself as “a manifestation of a wish not to take part,” but it may carry even more layers of meaning.
-
A) Wise self-defense: Perhaps an unconscious instinct for self-defense kicked in, telling you it’s not wise to wear yourself down, body and mind, in a ring (= a stressful reality) governed by any more unreasonable rules. This isn’t mere “escape,” but can be seen as a “strategic retreat” to protect your own energy.
-
B) Redefining your role: Perhaps you are trying to find new possibilities not in standing at the front as a player (a party directly involved), but in taking a step back, surveying the situation from above, and playing a supporting role. It could also be an inner voice saying that you might make better use of your abilities by supporting someone or managing the whole, rather than fighting directly yourself.
-
C) A question about where responsibility lies: The sight of “the other two climbing into the ring” may be an unconscious question about where responsibility lies: “Is this really a problem that I alone should be facing head-on?” When someone other than you becomes the lead, you are freed from the pressure. That sense of relief may have led to this choice.
Summary
This dream can be called a mirror reflecting a very complex and human state of mind: “puzzled by the gap between the original expectation (manzai) and reality (pro wrestling), yet searching for the way of engaging that suits you best (cheering).”
It may not be merely a negative “escape” at all, but a creative and resilient process of adaptation, in which you protect yourself and find a new role of your own amid a changing situation.

↑Made with nano-banana. I gave it no context whatsoever, like “this is Lumine from Genshin Impact.” I only handed it a picture of Lumine hanging from a horizontal bar, and it drew the stamina bar accurately. Amazing.
