Recent Earworms (from Genshin Impact)

This is an English translation of the original Japanese article, translated with the help of AI.

Lately, there are a few songs stuck in my head that just won’t leave. I desperately want to purge them somehow.

Still, I figured I would document them here first.

Saltatio Favillae - Yu-Peng Chen#

The BGM for Phase 2 of the Signora boss fight in Genshin Impact.

Ever since reading this article, it won’t stop looping in my head.

Part of it is also because I’ve fought her so many times to farm materials, though.

To make matters worse, these visuals keep flashing through my mind along with it, driving me half insane. Baron Bunny is so cute.

Momiagewo Shakaagewo - Nununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununununu#

Bizarrely addictive. I don’t usually follow Vocaloid stuff, but once again, I ended up here via Genshin.

Just what kind of character is Furina? And why is she hanging out with Hu Tao?

To find that out, I’d need to advance the main quest, but I’ve ground to a complete halt midway through Fontaine. There are various reasons, but the biggest one is that I lost the motivation to push forward.

See, the vast majority of my motivation for journeying across Teyvat so far was that I wanted to hear the Fontaine battle theme during an actual battle in Fontaine.

The battle theme in the summer 2024 limited-time area, “Simulanka,” happened to be from Fontaine, and at the time—having started Genshin just three days prior and having barely cleared Mondstadt—it hit me right in the soul.

And so, hearing this track in Fontaine became my entire motivation for progressing through Genshin. But precisely because I managed to fulfill that goal, I kind of lost my reason to keep going.

Inazuma - Yu-Peng Chen#

The main theme of Inazuma from Genshin. Ever since watching this breakdown video, I’ve fallen head over heels in love with it.

Compared to the other regions, Inazuma’s music feels exceptionally high-level—or rather, it feels like it employs some seriously complex music theory. I suspect it’s because he drew heavily from Joe Hisaishi in order to craft “Japanese-style music.”

According to Wikipedia, Yu-Peng Chen was inspired to pursue a musical career by the film Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, so composing the music for Inazuma must have been an absolute blast for him.

Incidentally, my favorite out of all regular battle themes in Genshin Impact is also an Inazuma track.

Whenever I listen to this, memories of the climax of Inazuma’s World Quest, “Sacred Sakura Cleansing Ritual,” come rushing back. Lack of voice acting aside, I actually prefer this over the Archon Quests.

Bonus#

I messed around with Astro’s code to get link cards working. It feels like a proper modern blog now. So, I decided to go all out and use a ton of link cards in this post.

For the implementation, I referenced—or rather, straight-up ripped off—the post below. Much appreciated.
